Stages of imagination

SCAD production design spaces dot Savannah’s historic district. Students attend classes at Crites Hall, a century-old hub for the SCAD School of Film and Acting that also houses a black-box theater space. They fabricate sets for live production on the stages of classically restored cinemas Lucas Theatre for the Arts and Trustees Theater. And, at SCAD Film Studios in Savannah, they enjoy access to a wonderland of technology, tools, and production spaces: a 17,000 sq. ft. production design facility as well as green screen studios, backlot streetscapes, and LED volume stages.

SCAD hosts glittering signature events annually where production design students expand their professional networks, connect with (and even present for!) lauded guests, catch award-winning shows and films, and revel in the festive environments around each event.

SCAD Savannah Film Festival

Each fall, SCAD hosts the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, a week-long celebration of cinematic arts showcasing the work of both award-winning professionals and emerging student filmmakers. As the largest university film festival in the country, the event attracts more than 60,000 attendees annually and features competition film screenings, workshops, celebrity panels and lectures, and much more.

SCAD TVfest

Presented each spring, SCAD TVfest celebrates the latest in design, creativity, and innovation in television, streaming, and digital media. Working professionals from all spheres of content production gather for screenings, premieres, panel discussions, and workshops exploring the latest trends and the best content airing today. Opportunities abound to connect and network with future peers practicing in front of and behind the screen.

Panels, guest lectures, and master classes at SCAD signature events give production design students inside access to top creatives from film and TV, including production staff from The Menu, The Queen’s Gambit, The Gilded Age, Oppenheimer, Poor Things, and Wicked.
