Safety and security at SCAD
A comprehensive approach to safety
The Department of University Safety exists to ensure the safest learning environment possible through a layered and comprehensive approach to security, backed by experienced leadership. SCAD works closely with local police, fire and emergency personnel, as well as state and federal agencies, to ensure that students have a safe and open college experience.
General safety actions
- In an emergency, assess the situation, move to a safe location and dial 911 (in the U.S.) or 112 (in France).
- Contact campus safety and security and follow instructions. Remain calm and encourage others to do the same.
- Follow directions from emergency personnel and public safety officials.
- If a campus or building lockdown is issued by safety officials, occupants of any building within the impacted area should lock all doors and windows and remain in the building, office or classroom until the all clear has been given.

LiveSafe is a free smartphone app that turns every student's phone into a personal safety device. By using a smartphone's GPS system, students can report suspicious activity in real time by snapping photos, recording video or submitting anonymous safety concerns.
BeeSafe at SCAD
A complete crime prevention program offers members of the SCAD community a toolkit to identify and navigate safety issues. Through BeeSafe, you can learn tips to avoid risk online; buy, sell and trade from online marketplaces in a staffed location with SafeTrade; and reduce your exposure to crime with HomeCheck.
Emergency notification systems
SCAD is ready if a crisis occurs. We have established a comprehensive notification system to communicate with students and families in a timely manner. This includes the SCAD Alert System, online notifications, television reports, radio messages and more. We are dedicated to ensuring an effective, open and appropriate response.
SCAD SafeRide
SCAD SafeRide ensures students have a way to get home safely from open SCAD buildings to off-campus residences. SCAD SafeRide at SCAD Atlanta provides rides to off-campus residences within three miles of campus. SCAD SafeRide at SCAD Savannah offers service throughout the historic district and city's Midtown neighborhood.
Pedestrian corridors
The SCAD Department of University Safety has established pedestrian corridors to accommodate students, faculty, staff and guests. These designated corridors are designed to provide an even more secure environment and will be monitored by mobile patrols, security professionals and off-duty law enforcement officers.
Security reports
In accordance with the Clery Act, SCAD provides a full report of the past year's crimes. The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available in the Department of University Safety office in Savannah, the student services office in Atlanta, and online.
