Samantha Geis (B.F.A., film and television, 2018) won the Jury Award at the Directors Guild of America 24th Annual Student Film Awards held in December, 2018, in Los Angeles. Her documentary film, Rock and a Hard Place, tells the story of Rocky Jean Louis, a Haitian immigrant living in the Bahamas, and his goal to run track at the Olympics.

The ShortList, The Wrap's short film festival, honored SCAD student Mark Vogt (B.F.A. film and television) with the Audience Choice Award for his entry, The Peak.

Six SCAD students were honored for their work at the 21st SCAD Savannah Film Festival held in October 2018. Two were double winners at the university's signature event, which attracts 63,000 film aficionados to Savannah each fall.

Sara Litzenberger's (B.F.A., animation, 2017) three-minute animated film Undiscovered — which follows Sasquatch as he desperately tries to take a good selfie — earned Official Selection recognition at the Austin Film Festival.

Patricia Covarrubia Pinto (B.F.A., graphic design, 2019) and Puxi Yang (M.A., graphic design and visual experience, 2018) are 2019 Students to Watch, according to Graphic Design USA.

A submission by Sara Litzenberger (B.F.A., animation, 2017) garnered Official Selection recognition at the 11th ACM SIGGRAPH Asia 2018 Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques. Her three-minute animated film "Undiscovered" follows Sasquatch on a quest for a good photo of himself.

Benjamin Chung (B.F.A., industrial design, 2019) was awarded a first-place prize for Klatter, a collection of three windup toys, at the APDC*IDA Design Excellent Awards. APDC*IDA is a partnership between the Asia Pacific Design Center and International Design Awards to showcase and recognize groundbreaking designs from around the world.

For the third year in a row, The Rookies has ranked SCAD the No. 1 school for the study of motion graphics. Two motion media students each took home the "Rookie of the Year Award – 3D Motion Graphics" and "People’s Choice Award – 3D Motion Graphics. " In the visual effects category, two SCAD students won and received scholarships from top motion media studios.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is ranked the No. 1 university in the U.S. in the 2018 Red Dot Design Rankings for the second year in a row. SCAD undergrad and graduate students majoring in disciplines from illustration to user experience design scored a cumulative 40 awards.

From graphic design and photography to fashion, motion media and industrial design, SCAD made a strong showing at the International Design Awards. SCAD student Stuart Fano (M.F.A. motion media design) and SCAD alumna Nasheli Ortiz (M.F.A., fashion, 2013) were awarded two of the five gold awards for Emerging Designer of the Year.

Daniel Edwards (M.F.A., photography, 2019) was among an elite group of international photographers whose images were showcased in the outdoor photography exhibit, "THE FENCE." His work "Black Outlined Blue" is a series of black-and-white double portraits of African-American police officers that were also featured in the New York Times.

Sofie Lee (B.F.A., motion media design, 2018) was crowned winner of The Motion Awards in the Style Frames student category for her project “Dream.” She created a set of boards to go along with her visual poem "Lonely Wintry Moon" and took home the trophy. Lee's work has also been added to The Motion Awards' permanent online archive.

SCAD’s user experience design (UX) and graphic design students captured the imagination of the judges at the first annual Indigo Design Award, which recognizes digital innovation. The group’s project, "Spark" earned a gold-level award for its user-friendly solution to make physical therapy accessible and fun.

Isabella Mendez (B.F.A. fashion) and a coterie of her fellow SCAD School of Fashion students won financial support for their education from the 2018 YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund. As reward for their ideas that solve challenges in today's fashion world, 35 SCAD winners received scholarships of $5,000 or $7,500 each, nearly doubling the number of recipients in 2017. As one of eight finalists, Mendez received the highest scholarship of $35,000 for her athleisure wear concept.

Yasmin Baratova (B.F.A. fashion) bested nearly 300 students from Hong Kong and mainland Chinese institutions in the Disney ImagiNations Hong Kong Design Competition 2018 with her winning entry, "Reimagining Artemis." The annual competition challenges students to use their imaginations to design new exploratory experiences.

Seven illustration and one sequential art major from SCAD undergraduate and graduate programs earned first place awards at the prestigious 38th annual competition, which celebrates the best in technique, concept and skill of medium used.

SCAD architecture student Leslie Finnie was named the 2018 Lyceum Fellowship recipient for her design of a Canadian city market. After a juried competition, the Lyceum Fellowship awards an architecture student grants to travel to different countries to explore the intersection of building design and world cultures.

SCAD students Anja Lukovic, Marino Funakoshi, Natalie Schade, Diana Thomson and Nick Wargo won the top honor for student designers at the European Product Design Awards for their futuristic food truck concept, "Ugli."

Two SCAD interior design students were chosen alongside six other student winners of the American Society of Interior Designers Student Portfolio Competition, each securing a $2,100 scholarship from the Benjamin Moore & Co. Foundation and a coveted internship at global design companies and firms. The ASID Student Portfolio Competition evaluates and awards the best collections of student design projects across the U.S.

The American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment recognizes professional and student projects that integrate great design and performance, meeting rigorous criteria for social, economic and ecological value. In 2018, SCAD architecture student Austen Goodman was among the honorees for the AIA COTE Top Ten for Students award.

The Georgia chapter of the American Institute of Architects honors Georgia architects for their design excellence. In 2018, the organization selected two SCAD architecture students for their projects envisioning a new extension of the SCAD Atlanta campus.

Tess Burns (B.F.A. fashion marketing and management) received the 2017 National Retail Federation Ray Greenly Scholarship after competing with undergraduate and graduate students from more than 40 colleges and universities.

The SCAD mobile app, which made its debut in 2016, took The Webby People’s Voice Award for Mobile Sites & Apps School/University. The app's functionality and superior design carried it to victory in an extremely close vote.

Anna Brody (B.F.A. photography) and Joshua McFadden (M.F.A., photography, 2016) were selected for the Photo District News, or PDN, photo annual.

Jeffrey Taylor (B.F.A., fashion, 2016) continues to enjoy success with his Tibetan-themed line of dresses. He followed up his win at the annual Supima Design Competition with another accolade: Emerging Fashion Designer of the Year at the IDA Design Awards for 2016. This is the highest honor awarded to a fashion student or recent fashion graduate by IDA each year.

Frank Sessa (B.F.A. fashion marketing and management) captured first place honors in the commercial category at the 2017 Student Production Awards, also known as the Student EMMYs. He shared the top spot with fellow Bee Stephen White.

Zach Rich (M.F.A, animation, 2017; B.F.A., animation, 2014) earns a first-place finish for his short tale of a ninja cat trying to satisfy its hunger for a treat from of a vending machine — with an ironic twist at the end.

Edgar Espejo's (B.F.A, industrial design, 2016; B.F.A., service design, 2016) use of haptic technology to help deaf students be integrated into mainstream schools earned him the Design for Social Impact Award in the student competition at this year's Core77 Design Awards.

The Student Production Awards tabbed Ivan Fernandez Garces (B.F.A. industrial design) with the top prize in the public service announcement category for his voting-themed effort.

Isabel Taborga (B.F.A., advertising, 2017) earned a gold award in the national student competition of this year’s American Advertising Awards for her Just for Men entry.

SCAD students Aaron Atwood (M.F.A. furniture design; B.F.A., painting, 2011) and Yen-Wen Lu (M.A. furniture design) earned top honors in the student competition at the 2017 NYCxDESIGN Awards.

Six SCAD students each earned $5,000 scholarships from the Young Menswear Association Fashion Scholarship Fund for 2017. The six, who are fashion marketing and management majors, collected the awards at a dinner in New York City.

SCAD industrial design students Jordan Jones, Yulin Liu, Cody Moore, Tom Rouine, Aditi Vyas and Fernando Zeledon brought a view of the future to life with their gold-award-winning entry for the 2017 European Product Design Award: "Culinary Coach."

Anna Haldewang's (B.F.A. industrial design) "Renascence," a cutting-edge design of a 300-foot trimaran yacht, not only captured a gold medal in the transportation category, but it was also named the European Product Design Award’s Discovery of the Year, 2017.

SCAD student Jiao Tian's (M.F.A. industrial design) floating series of living room furniture earned a gold award in the prestigious 2017 European Product Design Awards, student category. SCAD earned more honors at the competition than any other university.

Two SCAD jewelry students, Seung Jeon Paik (M.F.A. jewelry and objects) and Maneli Sarmadi (M.F.A., jewelry, 2017), earned first-place honors in the 2017 NICHE Awards in the student category. Paik won for "Union," while Sarmadi took a top honor for "Still Life in Gold No. 1."

Contract Magazine held its 38th Annual Interiors Awards in New York. The competition celebrates great design, honoring works in more than a dozen categories. Natalie Imran (M.Arch, 2016) won the Interiors Awards 2017 student category for "The Masque of the Interior."

The Healthcare Environment Awards honor health care interior architecture and design across a range of project types. Nisha Patel (B.F.A., interior design, 2015) took first place for "Life Empowered Healing," an Everglades-inspired pediatric oncology setting. The awards are sponsored by Contract Magazine.
