Samantha Geis (B.F.A., film and television, 2018) won the Jury Award at the Directors Guild of America 24th Annual Student Film Awards held in December, 2018, in Los Angeles. Her documentary film, Rock and a Hard Place, tells the story of Rocky Jean Louis, a Haitian immigrant living in the Bahamas, and his goal to run track at the Olympics.

Isabella Mendez (B.F.A. fashion) and a coterie of her fellow SCAD School of Fashion students won financial support for their education from the 2018 YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund. As reward for their ideas that solve challenges in today's fashion world, 35 SCAD winners received scholarships of $5,000 or $7,500 each, nearly doubling the number of recipients in 2017. As one of eight finalists, Mendez received the highest scholarship of $35,000 for her athleisure wear concept.
