Biking

Biking is a great option for students and an easy way to get around the Atlanta and Savannah locations. Bikes must be registered with the SCAD Department of University Safety.

Register your bike:

  • Visit MySCAD > Personal info page > Parking channel > "Request a parking permit or pay a ticket" link.
  • Select your location.
  • Pick your decal once you are notified via email.

Biking in Atlanta

Bicycles must be secured to bicycle racks located near the second-floor parking deck or at racks provided throughout SCAD Atlanta. Motorcycles should park in vehicle parking spaces in the SCAD Atlanta parking deck only. For more information, call the SCAD Department of University Safety in Atlanta at 404.253.3333.

Biking in Savannah

While biking through Savannah, cyclists should remember that riding through downtown squares and on sidewalks, including on Broughton Street, is illegal and carries a fine of more than $100. For more rules and tips for cycling through Savannah, visit the City of Savannah website.

SCAD Bike Share program

Students in Savannah have the option to rent bikes through SCAD Bike Share. Take advantage of this no-cost option.

  • Download the On Bike Share app.

  • Register with your SCAD email (accounts with a personal email will not be activated).
  • Search and join the SCAD Bike Share.
  • Once verified, students will be able to rent available bicycles.
  • Return your bicycle to the same bicycle station after each ride.
  • Limit rides to four hours as a courtesy to other riders.

Biking safety

Remember, bicycles are governed by the same traffic regulations as motorized vehicles. Cyclists should obey all traffic laws. In Savannah, riding through squares and parks is prohibited, and wearing a helmet while cycling is highly encouraged. If cyclists plan to ride at night, they should ensure their bicycle has proper lighting: a white light on the front of the bicycle and a red light on the rear of the bicycle is required. Cyclists are also urged to purchase a U-lock to properly secure their bicycle to bike racks and prevent against theft.
