Career Action Plan

With thorough guidance and major-specific career advisers, you'll craft an individual Career Action Plan that will lead you toward meaningful professional development. The Career Action Plan combines four levels of achievement and five benchmarks to prime you for success before and after graduation.

On the SCAD Career Planner, powered by 12twenty, you'll find the pathway to professional success which outlines four levels of activities and achievements. Each level merges personalized advising with experiential learning.

  • Level 1: Build the foundation for self-promotion
At this level, you will upload your first résumé, volunteer with SCAD SERVE, engage with professionals during employer presentations, and more.
  • Level 2: Prepare for peak performance moments
Perfect your pitch, create a masterful presentation, and try your hand at a mock interview with SCADamp communication coaches. At level 2, you will also pursue student leadership positions, prepare for the career fair, identify potential employers, and upload your first portfolio.
  • Level 3: Engage in professional development
You're ready to refine your résumé, portfolio, website, and social media. You will also engage in SCADpro assignments, attend the career fair, network at industry events, and enter relevant competitions at level 3.
  • Level 4: Solidify post-graduation success

At this final level in your pathway to professional success, you'll put the finishing touches on all your professional materials. You'll also join professional organizations and create a network of contacts. You may engage in another SCADpro project or obtain an internship. Finally, you will register with our Industry and Alumni Engagement team to stay connected to opportunities and support long after graduation.

As you progress through each level, you'll achieve the following major benchmarks:

  • Benchmark 1: Self-promotion
  • Benchmark 2: Professional readiness
  • Benchmark 3: Portfolio
  • Benchmark 4: Pre-graduation internships and professional experiences
  • Benchmark 5: Post-graduation outcomes — employment, entrepreneurship, or further education.
