Weapons policy

SCAD is committed to providing a safe environment for all members of the university community to live, learn, and work. In support of this commitment, the university has zero tolerance for weapons on any SCAD campus or at any university-sponsored event, with the exception of active law enforcement agents in the performance of their duties. This includes the storage of any item that falls within the category of a weapon in a vehicle parked on SCAD property. Any individual found in violation of this policy will be immediately removed from university property or the event and may also be subject to disciplinary action (up to and including expulsion for students and termination for employees) and/or criminal prosecution.

Weapons include firearms, explosives (including fireworks and ammunition), non-kitchen knives with blades two (2) inches or longer, kitchen knives with blades longer than six and a half (6½) inches, martial arts weapons, bows and arrows, slingshots; or real, lifelike, and/or replica weapons.

Exceptions
Any weapon (or likeness thereof) used in a film shoot must be scripted and requires advance approval of the faculty member in charge of the course. Students should refer to film and television department policies and protocols for weapons use on sets. All other exceptions must be approved in advance by the vice president for University Safety.
