Letter from the president
Welcome! SCAD is the most comprehensive, accredited nonprofit art and design university in the U.S. SCAD students can pursue their studies in more than 100 degree programs at our locations in the U.S., Europe, and online via SCAD eLearning. The university celebrates the unique character of each location, where classrooms and residences are designed for utility, beauty, and security.
In Savannah, Georgia, the university’s first hometown, SCAD students live and study in revitalized buildings ranging from a 19th-century synagogue to an 18th-century railroad depot in the heart of the city’s National Historic Landmark District near the Atlantic coast. In Atlanta, SCAD students flourish in the heart of the busiest film and television market in the U.S. Notable among SCAD Atlanta resources is the 60,000-square-foot SCAD Digital Media Center, which features high-end television production sets and multi-camera sound stages. Across the ocean, students at SCAD Lacoste live and work toward their degrees in the world’s most beautiful learning environment, tucked into a medieval village on a hillside in the Provençal region of France, where academic and residential buildings date from the ninth to the 19th centuries.
At all locations, students learn from renowned professors and gain real-world experience through SCADpro projects, partnering with business leaders from companies like Google, YouTube, Volvo, BMW, Microsoft, Disney, and more to design creative solutions for real-world business challenges. SCAD professors are experienced educators who have won AIA awards, Cannes Jury Prizes, and Fulbright Scholarships; exhibited at MoMA and the Smithsonian American Art Museum; and had their work featured in Architectural Digest, Vanity Fair, and Esquire. SCAD students also learn from special guests and extraordinary creative professionals.
At SCAD, students experience holistic wellbeing. SCAD offers nationally ranked men’s and women’s athletics programs including cross country, equestrian, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, and track and field. Volunteerism is also integral to university life. Through SERVE, SCAD’s student-led community service organization, SCAD students uplift hospital patients through art, donate their spring break to aid communities in need, mentor local school children, and more.
Internships and career coaching are vital at SCAD. All SCAD students share a legacy of success as the winners of Academy Awards, Emmys, and Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards; the founders of successful businesses; and the leaders of top firms and brands. And, as a study of the spring Class of 2019 demonstrates, the demand for SCAD alumni continues: 99 percent are employed or pursuing further education within 10 months of graduation.
SCAD commands global recognition. Since 2017, DesignIntelligence has ranked the SCAD interior design undergraduate and graduate programs No. 1 a total of 16 times. In 2019, for the fourth consecutive year, The Rookies recognized SCAD as the No. 1 university for 3D Motion Media Design. Join us at SCAD, The University for Creative Careers.
