What is Pre-Bee?

Pre-Bee is designed to set new SCAD students on the path to success by providing a weeklong cultural enrichment experience through insightful educational workshops and cultural excursions. SCAD faculty, staff, and alumni share strategies for success at The University for Creative Careers.

Open to all deposit-paid, incoming, first-year undergraduate students, Pre-Bee is packed with excursions and tours to local points of interest. Faculty members lead drawing and design demonstrations, outline expectations for the first-year foundation studies courses, and help prepare students for success within SCAD classrooms. Pre-Bee also offers opportunities for new Bees to forge new bonds and friendships.

What is the cost?

The program fee is US$2,000 for Lacoste and US$900 for Atlanta and Savannah.

What is included in the program fee?

The program fee includes transportation to and from airport and during all outings, housing, all meals, guided tours, excursions, and workshops. International travel insurance is included in Lacoste.

Will I earn college credit?

No, this program is not for academic credit.

What should I bring?

You should pack summer clothes, sturdy walking shoes, swimwear, a towel, toiletries, and a willingness to have fun and meet new people. A detailed packing list will be provided prior to departure.

What do I need to bring for the workshops?

A series of workshops will be led by SCAD faculty, who will give insight and success strategies to help prepare students for university life. All workshop materials will be provided.

Are family and guests welcome?

Due to the limited accommodations and bus capacity, we are not able to accommodate additional family members.

Where will I be staying?

Students reside in SCAD student housing. Housing units vary in capacity, but you should be prepared to share bathrooms with other students of the same gender identity.

Can I use scholarships, financial aid, or loans to cover the cost of the program?

No, the cost of the program must be paid out of pocket.

When is the program balance due?

Atlanta and Savannah
A US$150 nonrefundable registration fee is due when you submit the application. A deposit of US$400 is due on Friday, June 20. The remaining balance of US$350 is due on or before Friday, July 18.

Lacoste
After Pre-Bee acceptance notifications are sent Friday, May 16, a deposit to hold your spot will be due Friday, June 13. The remaining program balance will be billed through MySCAD. Once your student is accepted, we will send further instructions.

How many students will be attending?

Pre-Bee can accommodate up to 160 students per session.

How does this program affect move-in and welcome week activities?

Pre-Bee does not interfere with move-in or welcome week programming. Students are encouraged to attend all of these programs.

 

Questions about Lacoste

How will we get to Lacoste?

All participants need to arrive at Marseille International Airport (MRS) by noon on Wednesday, Aug. 20. If you are departing from the U.S., you will depart Tuesday, Aug. 19, in order to arrive at the Marseille International Airport on Wednesday, Aug. 20. Buses will be provided from Marseille to Lacoste. Those who book flights that arrive in Lacoste after noon will be responsible for their own transportation to Lacoste. Taxis cost approximately 100 euros.

Students will depart from Marseille International Airport on Tuesday, Aug. 26. All departure flights must depart after 10:30 a.m. If your flight leaves before 10:30 a.m. you will need to find your own transportation to the airport on departure day.

Pre-Bee student ambassadors will travel on suggested flight routes that will be shared in advance and those ambassadors will offer minor travel support.

Do I need a passport to apply?

A valid passport is required to travel to Lacoste, but you may apply to the program before you have a current passport in hand.

Do I need a visa to go to Lacoste?

U.S. students are able to go to Lacoste with a passport. U.S. passports must be valid for six months after the return flight after the program is completed. International students will need to research requirements for their country via the French Consulate.
