André Leon Talley
André Leon Talley is an American fashion journalist and former editor at large for Vogue magazine. Talley began his career at the Andy Warhol Factory, working for the famed artist's Interview magazine and later assisting legendary Vogue editor-in-chief Diana Vreeland at The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. After stints at Women's Wear Daily and The New York Times, Talley joined Vogue as the fashion news director in 1983, becoming creative director in 1988 and then, after a tenure at W magazine, editor at large until 2013. Talley has curated numerous exhibitions for SCAD and other venues, and for more than two decades, he has been a vital mentor to students in the university's award-winning fashion program. Talley received the Eugenia Sheppard Award for Fashion Journalism from the CFDA in 2003. He is the author of several books and has been featured in the documentaries First Monday in May, The September Issue, and The Gospel According to André. In 2011, SCAD honored Talley with the André Leon Talley Gallery at the renowned SCAD Museum of Art and established the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award.
