Guo Pei Couture Beyond
In concert with the exhibition, SCAD is collaborating with three SCAD photography alumni to produce the first major monograph that will focus solely on Guo Pei and her spectacular oeuvre. This captivating volume will offer insight into her remarkable career and global significance as an artist in the form of a biographical essay, and will feature a foreword, curatorial note, full-color spreads and new and archival images of her work. The book will be published and distributed internationally by Skira Rizzoli and is slated for release in December 2017.
About the exhibition
In Fall 2017, SCAD presented, "Guo Pei: Couture Beyond," the first U.S. solo museum exhibition of designs by China’s most illustrious couturière, Guo Pei, the first Chinese national fashion designer invited to join the prestigious Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.
Shown in Atlanta and Savannah, this landmark exhibition features more than 40 of Guo Pei’s most exquisite designs, including accessories and signature masterpieces, such as the now-iconic imperial yellow cape worn by Rihanna to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in 2015 — a seminal moment that introduced Guo Pei to America’s fashion cognoscenti. "Guo Pei: Couture Beyond" will travel and be on view at Vancouver Art Gallery, Oct. 13, 2018 through Jan. 20, 2019.
