Join noted film analysts and essayists Taylor Ramos and Tony Zhou, creators of Every Frame a Painting, as they dive into the craft of visual comedy in this talk presented by SCADFILM. In their presentation Where is Jokes? A Guide to Visual Comedy, Ramos and Zhou will explore how to use techniques like camera placement, editing, and long-take staging to bring humor to life on screen. Drawing from their extensive experience in animation and filmmaking, Ramos and Zhou will share actionable insights on how to deliver jokes through the lens, making this presentation essential for anyone curious about the subtleties of comedic timing and visual storytelling.

Ramos and Zhou are the creators of the popular Every Frame a Painting, examining film, cinematography, and other production techniques, which returned for a limited series on YouTube in 2024. As a filmmaking duo — Ramos draws and edits while the pair write and direct together — Ramos and Zhou have served as writers, producers, and directors on the Netflix series Voir and premiered the narrative short The Second in 2024. Their work has also been featured on FilmStruck and the Criterion Collection. Veterans of the animation industry, they have contributed to series like Hilda, The Last Kids on EarthLegend of the Three CaballerosDragons: Rescue Riders, and The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special.
