Rising Star student experience

By participating in the SCAD Rising Star program, students can enjoy a taste of what life is like as a fully enrolled SCAD student. The following is an example of what a Rising Star participant's day might look like:

6:45-7:30 a.m. Breakfast
Meet your friends at a SCAD dining facility and grab cereal, pancakes, coffee, and more to fuel your morning.
7:30 a.m. Board shuttles to class
8-10:30 a.m. Course I
Watch a demonstration given by your professor and experiment with new materials during class time.
10:30 a.m. Students return to residence hall
11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lunch/free time
Prepare for your next class while you grab a slice of pizza at the dining hall.
1:30 p.m. Board shuttles to class
2-4:30 p.m. Course II
Mini-critique today — be prepared to share new ideas with your peers and revamp old projects.
4:30 p.m. Students return to residence hall
6:30-8 p.m. Dinner/free time
Sesame chicken with spicy potato cakes is one of many menu options tonight. After dinner, take time to get some laundry and homework done.
7-10 p.m. Hang out
Attend the optional weekly evening activity.
10-11 p.m. Free time
11 p.m. Curfew

Activities and excursions

Students gain an authentic experience of life as a SCAD student. Pre-college assistants plan and coordinate a variety of activities to build community among Rising Star participants and help them become familiar with SCAD and community resources. All students also have access to SCAD fitness centers in Savannah and Atlanta.

Optional excursions may include trips to local sites and attractions, including:

  • Tybee Island in Savannah
  • Atlanta Botanical Gardens
  • SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah
  • Shopping in Atlanta or Savannah
  • Movie nights
  • Artist studio visits
  • Interactive workshops
  • And many more

Activities are subject to change. Students may sign up during the program.

Housing

While attending Rising Star, students can choose to reside in one of SCAD's residence halls: FORTY (Atlanta) or The Hive (Savannah).

Housing options are subject to change.

Each student will be paired with a roommate in suite-style accommodations with double occupancy rooms. Rooms are furnished with beds, desks, and private baths. Bed and bath linens are not provided. View floor plans and more detailed information regarding the room features for The Hive in Savannah and FORTY in Atlanta.

Dining

Students enjoy their meals in SCAD dining halls. The Rising Star program includes three meals per day, Monday through Friday, and two meals (brunch and dinner) on Saturday and Sunday.
