MIAMI, FLORIDA — The Savannah College of Art and Design presents SCAD at DESIGN MIAMI., a convergence of design innovation, contemporary art, and creative education, Dec. 3–8, marking the sixth year SCAD has served as the official university partner of the prestigious fair and global forum. Exemplifying the university’s mission to provide opportunities for creatives to display their work on international platforms, SCAD’s activation at booth X/06 will feature works by alumni in a delightful orchestration of color, texture, and craftsmanship. Artist Anya Molyviatis (B.F.A., fibers, 2021) showcases a new series of her hallmark three-dimensional weavings within a site-specific installation that envelops the space in dynamic multicolor gradients and evokes the complexity of her process on the loom. Designer Eny Lee Parker (M.F.A., furniture design, 2018; M.A., furniture design, 2016; B.F.A. interior design, 2011) displays tables made of glass and ceramic, exemplifying her compelling approach to fundamental elements. Celebrated tastemaker Christopher John Rogers (B.F.A., fashion, 2016) partners with family-owned furniture design studio and manufacturer Orior, led by Ciaran McGuigan (B.F.A., film and television, 2013), to deliver a seating line that pays whimsical reverence to traditional Irish fabrication. Rogers’ signature patterns and harlequin prints pair with Orior’s chic reimaginations of classic utility pieces, yielding distinctive chairs with sophisticated eccentricity. Each work on view challenges expectation of form, finish, and materiality, together presenting an environment that inspires wonder and tranquility.
“Once again, SCAD infuses DESIGN MIAMI. — now in our sixth year as the official university partner — with fresh invention straight from the brilliant hands and minds of SCAD alumni. This year’s booth may be our most wondrous yet, pairing Christopher John Rogers and Orior’s Ciaran McGuigan — virtuosos of fashion and furniture — who first met as SCAD students. Eny Lee Parker wows with her compelling table designs and fibers visionary Anya Molyviatis captivates with her intricate, three-dimensional weavings and immersive installation. Witness the wonder yourself this winter in South Beach!”

In 2023, SCAD featured designs by alumni from the university’s leading jewelry and fibers programs — both the largest degree-granting programs in the U.S. Artists including Shuoyuan Bai (M.F.A., jewelry, 2020), Seth Carlson (B.F.A., jewelry, 2007), Xinia Guan (M.F.A., jewelry, 2020), Miao He (M.F.A., jewelry, 2019), Xun Liu (M.F.A., jewelry, 2020), and Andrea Ortiz (M.F.A., jewelry, 2023) showcased their extensive knowledge of materials and techniques in wearable innovations that embraced jewelry’s relationship to the human body and self-expression. The jewelry designs were exhibited within an intricate installation by Paola Maldonado (B.F.A., fibers, 2018) that highlighted her creative approach with texture, color, and form through unexpected treatment and compositions.
In 2022, SCAD collaborated with internationally celebrated Mexican studio Cerámica Suro on vibrant collections of glazed tiles by SCAD alumni artists Nicolas Barrera (M.Arch., 2023; B.F.A., architecture, 2018), Lauren Clay (B.F.A., painting, 2004), Gonzalo Hernandez (M.F.A., fibers, 2019; M.A., painting, 2018), Cory Imig (B.F.A., fibers, 2008), Abel Macias (B.F.A., illustration, 2002), and Nikita Nagpal (M.F.A., fibers, 2019). Reflecting the artists’ unique creative visions, the tiles were showcased in a dramatic arched intervention by Barrera. The immersive installation, which also featured new lighting and furniture designs by SCAD alum Marcelo Suro (B.F.A., industrial design, 2022), transformed over the course of the fair, with a different collection enlivening the space each day.
Over the years, SCAD has presented work by renowned international artists during Miami Art Week, including Carlos Cruz-Diez, André 3000, and Daniel Lismore, and showcased numerous alumni artists from a range of the university’s top-ranked degree programs including Scott Carter (B.F.A., painting, 2008), Jose Gallo (B.F.A., sculpture, 2015; B.F.A., photography, 2015), Archana Menon (M.F.A., furniture design, 2021), Patrick Kuhnmuench (M.F.A., motion media design, 2021), Christian Dunbar (M.F.A., furniture design, 2016), Katie Glusica (M.F.A., fibers, 2011), Kristina Larson (M.A., arts administration, 2012), Kyle Millsap (B.F.A., illustration, 2006), Eny Lee Parker (M.F.A., furniture design, 2018; M.A., furniture design, 2016; B.F.A., interior design, 2011), Katy Skelton (M.F.A., furniture design, 2011), Wendy White (B.F.A., fibers, 1993), Greg Brunkalla (B.F.A., video/ film, 2001), Bin Feng (M.F.A., photography, 2017), and more.
