Igshaan Adams at the SCAD Museum of Art

South African artist Igshaan Adams shares the lived experiences that inspired his installation Getuie, his first solo museum exhibition, on view at the SCAD Museum of Art through Aug. 2. Getuie is Afrikaans slang that translates as “witness” and is often used in reference to a close ally. Drawing its material from working-class Black African communities across Cape Town that were kept separate under apartheid, the installation is testament to the lives and shared histories that have left their indelible residue.
